Postdoc Teaching Opportunities (PTOP)

The Postdoc Teaching Opportunities Program (PTOP) allows UC Berkeley postdocs across all disciplines to acquire experience and expertise in teaching college level courses at community colleges, liberal arts colleges, and universities in the Bay Area.

Humanities and Social Science Association (HSSA)

HSSA strives to create, maintain, and encourage a social and intellectual community for postdoctoral scholars, visiting scholars, visiting student researchers, and graduate students in the humanities and social sciences.

Postdoctoral Industry Exploration Program (PIEP)

Postdocs and graduate students are often faced with a dilemma: stay in academia or seek a job in industry? For many, this decision is difficult because exposure to industry careers is limited. We developed a program at the University of California Berkeley which increases the transparency about industry so that postdocs and graduate students can make informed decisions about their careers.

Berkeley Postdoctoral Entrepreneurs Program (BPEP)

BPEP aims to foster entrepreneurship in the UC Berkeley postdoctoral and graduate community. We provide tools, mentoring, and a platform for science-business communication to enable research innovations to move into the marketplace.  We believe entrepreneurship is an integral part of UC Berkeley's ethos, and aim to build a community of entrepreneurship among UC Berkeley's postdocs.

Toast of Berkeley

Toast of Berkeley was established in 2009 to foster a helping community of people interested in becoming more confident and effective public speakers and leaders. We have created a loyal following of students, educators, and professionals with diverse backgrounds from all over the world. We welcome everyone. Whether English is or isn't your first language, if you are just starting out with public speaking or wish to improve your skills, come join us! Toast of Berkeley is part of Toastmasters International, a world leader in communication and leadership development, with 270,000 members.

Opportunities for Postdoc Equity Networking (OPEN)

OPEN is a program initiated by the BPA to promote equity, diversity and inclusion in the postdoc and graduate student community. Its mission is to build a network of core groups of postdocs and graduate students that will focus on issues that women, ethnic minorities, LGBTQIA community and other groups face in academia. OPEN will promote intersectionality and dialogue between these groups and the broader postdoc and graduate student community in a series of events and activities.

Thriving in Science

Thriving in Science is a campus-wide, professional development initiative at U.C. Berkeley that is intended to provide graduate students and postdoctoral researchers with the resources and support to make the most of their academic training.

Beyond Academia

Beyond Academia is a student-run organization with the goal of empowering graduate students and post-docs to expand their careers beyond the traditional academic track. It accomplishes this career education through an annual conference, as well as a series of workshops, tutorials, and lectures that connect current academics with those who have made a transition to industry.

Berkeley Spouses, Partners & Parents Association (BSPPA)

BSPPA is a volunteer association that supports the families of postdocs, visiting scholars, and visiting graduate researchers. We organize social and informational events and assemble resources based on our collective experiences.

VSPA Professional Development Presentations

The VSPA recognises that postdoctoral appointments are only temporary. While they allow individuals a unique opportunity to conduct research in a world leading institution, the time must also prepare postdocs for a career in academia, industry, government and the non-profit sector. As such the VSPA provide career development support.
